Working for INRA

The National Institute for Agricultural Research is the second largest French public research organisation, the largest European organisation for agricultural research, and amongst the top three world-wide with a permanent staff of 8500.

Permanent researchers of all nationalities are recruited through a competitive process to select highly-qualified candidates. They are tenured from the start, and they can express their creativity and reach a level of excellence for the pleasure of discovering and developing effective applications useful to society today. Personal research and collective projects are closely linked in order to advance knowledge and participate in the development of innovation whether it be for sustainable production, the preservation of the environment or the improvement of food for human consumption. Every year, permanent research positions are offered to candidates holding a Ph.D. in different research fields.

Permanent engineers of all nationalities are selected using the same competitive procedure. They have major technical and managerial responsibilities. They work in close partnership with researchers, they are involved in laboratory activities, particularly at the technical and experimental levels. They develop new methods and techniques, build prototypes. They may also play an active role in research support. They work in extremely varied fields such as communication, finances and law. They are responsible for the follow-up of industrial, European and international partnerships, the enhancement of results and much much more. Every year, permanent engineer positions are offered. They are listed according to professional fields. Depending on the position, the candidates should hold a Master's degree or a Ph.D.

INRA also welcomes several hundred foreign researchers and students in its laboratories every year, in temporary positions, grant and exchange programmes, where they actively contribute to scientific challenges in the following fields of application: development of sustainable agriculture, nutrition and its effects on human health, environment and regional development. Candidates can make contact at any point in time directly with the laboratory where they wish to work.
