Procedure
After being accepted by the laboratory or enrolling in a doctoral programme, the future grantholder must obtain social security insurance (illness, work-related accidents, etc.), as well as liability insurance.
The guest laboratory will provide the candidate with the "Protocol d'accueil" (Guest Researcher Protocol), to be completed and presented at the French consulate in the candidate's country of origin in order to obtain a visa.
Before leaving for France, the candidate must provide certain administrative documents (for more information, contact the "foreign researcher" correspondent at the local human resources office of the INRA Centre where he/she will be going):
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Research programme;
- Visa;
- Birth certificate, translated into French;
- Personal data sheet.

Upon the candidate's arrival in France, a certain number of administrative requirements must be fulfilled. The correspondent will provide the candidate with the necessary assistance:
- Accommodation;
- Residency permit application;
- IMO (International Migration Office) medical examination; the guest laboratory is responsible for paying the IMO fee;
- Social Security card.

Length of stay at INRA
Doctoral students are in training for the purpose of obtaining a PhD. Their stay at INRA is limited to a minimum of one month and a maximum of four years.
Researchers or post-graduates hold either a PhD degree or the equivalent. The length of their stay varies from one month to a year with the possibility of renewing it for another year.
