The International Relations Department is responsible for developing, proposing and implementing INRA's policy for international relations and cooperation. It helps scientific divisions draw up and implement international strategic plans and provides assistance to research units in organising and carrying out their co-operation projects:

International co-operation, both bilateral and multilateral, outside the European Union, in the establishment’s areas of specialisation;

Promotion of joint programmes between INRA and its partners abroad. The MRI may allocate funds to encourage such projects;

Participation in cooperation policies in favour of developing and emerging countries. scientist exchanges between French laboratories and partners abroad and the setting up of networks and twin laboratories;

Administration of multidisciplinary or multi-institutional cooperation programmes and projects between several INRA research units and public or private partners.
INRA abroad: INRA has representatives and delegates as well as research facilities and joint research units in numerous countries.
