EVOLTREE

EVOLution of TREEs as drivers of terrestrial biodiversity

© Bertrand NICOLAS, INRA
This network of excellence, coordinated by INRA Bordeaux, focuses on the evolution of trees in response to climate changes. It started on the 1st of April 2006 and involves 25 partners from 15 countries of the European Union.

EVOLTREE is a long-term European research network promoting an innovative scientific approach to the diversity and evolution of species: “community genomics”. It brings together experts in four complementary disciplines: ecology, evolution, genomics and genetics to predict the evolution, in response to climate changes, of communities (trees, mycorrhizal fungi and insects), species and their diversity, by bringing to light the mechanisms which determine genetic diversity. These findings will make it possible to establish new guidelines, criteria and indicators for managing forests, preserving biodiversity and ensuring the traceability of wood throughout the production chain.
