INRA ensures that any transfer is accomplished according to equitable and transparent procedures concerning the choice of potential partners, taking account of any disparities. It will modulate its contractual policy as a function of the size of its economic partners, their capacity for self-funding and the factors determining the environment in which they are active. However, the Institute does not consider economic exploitation as the sole criterion which governs the utilisation of patents and know-how. Its aim is to broaden the foundations for development by encouraging the non-exclusivity of operating licenses. It ensures that such licenses granted to the private sector do not hinder the freedom of research of its own laboratories in the fields concerned. INRA constantly strives to ensure that its policies are in line with those of other French and European public-sector research organisations. As for young, innovative companies, INRA and its subsidiary, INRA-Transfert applies a consistent, targeted strategy concerning the training and awareness of researchers, relations with regional incubators, and providing scientific and technological support at the early stages of projects.
