INRA is counting on young researchers to reinforce cooperation with Poland
On the 22nd of October 2007, INRA and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education launched a joint call for proposals to finance research projects involving young scientists. This is part of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed on the 28th of September 2007 in Warsaw, which aims at encouraging exchanges and initiating and developing scientific collaboration between French and Polish scientists.

Poland is among the countries with which INRA intends to reinforce cooperation, as much for the quality of their research as for the importance they place on the new global challenges of research in agriculture, nutrition and the environment. In Western Europe, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany and in Eastern Europe, Poland and Hungary have been chosen to launch joint calls for proposals for reinforced bilateral cooperation.
After signing the Memorandum of Understanding on September 28, INRA and the Polish Ministry for Science and Higher Education undertake to finance projects involving young scientists, covering the salary of a post-doctoral fellow and a PhD student in Poland and France and a part of the operating costs.
The projects will be financed for 2 years, starting in June 2008, in the following fields of research:
- Human nutrition and food
- Crop protection and emerging pests and diseases
- Sustainable agriculture
- Preservation of the environment and land use management
- Impact of climate changes on agriculture
- Non-food uses of agricultural products.
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, INRA’s objective is to use these reinforced bilateral partnerships to develop research and training potential in its fields of competence.
The call for proposals closes on January 15, 2008. Researchers who are interested (French and Polish) can obtain financing for an exchange visit or for the organization of a small bilateral seminar to help them set up the project with their partner. These visits must take place before November 16, 2007.
