INRA conducts mission-oriented research which seeks to meet the major challenges of our society in terms of food and nutrition, sustainable agriculture and the environment.
INRA strives to ensure safe, tasty and healthful food. It also participates in developing land and in preserving and managing natural resources by promoting profitable, clean and sustainable agriculture. A large number of disciplines work together to 1) advance biological knowledge, from single genes to plants and animals, to artificial and natural ecosystems; 2) gain insight into physical matters such as the impact of human activities on climate; and 3) understand the sociological factors involved in food, health and the environment.
Interdisciplinary study is crucial to address these complex research issues and their interactions adequately. INRA offers synergies between the life sciences and human sciences.
Interdisciplinary research is made possible by a number of strong partnerships with the European and international scientific community, the socio-economic world, the public authorities and society at large.
INRA produces mission-oriented scientific knowledge and innovations and, as a research organisation designed for the public good, it must remain vigilant and responsible as to how this knowledge is passed on and used. This responsibility is reflected in INRA’s rigorous partnership policy and constant pursuit of ethics, as well as in its working methods, which emphasise the needs of the various components of society.
