The Microbiology and Food Chain Division (MICA) is one of INRA's 14 research divisions. The MICA Division’s research primarily focuses on the microbiology of the food chain in humans and animals, with four major objectives: (1) improving food safety, (2) reducing microbial risks for animal health, (3) improving the quality of fermented foods through the microbial agents involved, (4) acquiring generic knowledge in microbiology in areas within INRA’s sphere of activity. The MICA Division has 29 research units which employ 439 permanent staff, including 265 researchers, teacher-researchers and engineers.
