These orientations were developed in the context of collective debate, initiated by INRA's scientific divisions and regional centres and then opened to its partners. These discussions were based on assessments of the previous period and on a foresight approach to science and society (contextual changes in the areas of agriculture, food and nutrition and the environment). They thus form part of a longer term foresight programme. Particular emphasis is laid upon the need for prospective, multidisciplinary approaches, the European and international dimensions of research, adapting the Institute's partnerships to a broadening of its missions and changes to the research context in France. Analysis of the role of agriculture and socioeconomic actors in global production and trade, the study and management of biodiversity, food quality and safety and the use of agricultural products as biofuels or biomaterials are a few examples of the objectives determined as part of INRA's research strategy. >> Objectives for tomorrow's agricultural research.
